Manager’s report - Colin Fielding

The over 70s BLUES played 4 league games at Heywood today.
They played really well, starting with a 0-0 draw against Rochdale, creating several chances, but we're up against an outstanding goalkeeper.
The next game, against Winstanley, was another game with plenty of chances, but we couldn't score.
Our next game against Bury was a tough evenly matched game, the game was heading for another 0-0 until the Bury forward got the ball, went past a couple of our players, and smashed the ball into our net for their winning goal.
We had played well in the first 3 games but only had 2 points with one game left and it was against top of the league, Corinthians, with 2 England internationals in their team to play. It was a hard fought game, both teams playing well and creating chances. We created several chances, and their keeper pulled off some great saves. Halfway through the game, Pete Smith got the ball in his own half, beat a player and passed the ball to Neil Gaskell, who flicked the ball past 2 defenders, to Rob Rowney who beat a man and scored a wonderful goal. We defended well for the last few minutes to record an excellent win.
A mention to the other players, Pete Jarvis, Brian Hadfield, and Terry Hayden, who all put in good performances to keep goals against in 4 games to 1 goal.
I managed and supported the team and went as a substitute for all 4 games, but there was no need to play.
