The early days (as shared by original member Hadge Cooper) In the early days (2015) of walking football at Denton it was run by Well Fit. It was run by a couple of brothers, one called Pete was said to be a nice guy, his brother maybe not so much ! It was played once a week on a Tuesday. There were no bibs and games were multi touch on a full pitch, even when there were as little as four a side and sweeper-keeper didn’t exist. The rules were much different to what they are today. Tackling and heading were allowed and contact was a lot more commonplace as was running and injuries were more likely to occur. There were no dedicated referees and goalkeepers could play the ball out any way they chose including throwing it out overarm. One strange idea was when you scored a goal you had to change over to the other team. When Striders took over, Hadge Cooper was the only original member who continued. David Wilson, Gordon Nixon and Alan Richards and others joined at that stage. Hadge found out about walking football from a tv advertisement for Nat West. He was also at Denton Town on a presentation for one of his best friends and they were giving out leaflets for walking football at Denton. One of the lads said give it to Hadge because that's all he did when he was playing anyway 😂
